
The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, chaired on Sunday an expanded meeting of the Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee to discuss the current challenges facing the country’s energy sector. The meeting comes amid the impact of regional and global crises, alongside an anticipated surge in demand with the approach of the summer season.
Faihan stressed that the electricity file is directly linked to citizens’ daily lives and essential needs. He reaffirmed the full support of the parliament’s leadership for the work of the committee, highlighting the possibility of engaging experts to develop practical and realistic solutions that can be implemented to address existing challenges.
The meeting also discussed key issues related to electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as fuel supply and mechanisms for implementing electronic billing systems to reduce waste. Participants recommended launching specialized workshops and seminars in coordination with relevant authorities to produce serious solutions that would strengthen public confidence through tangible, effective, and timely outcomes.
