The First Deputy Speaker of Iraq’s Parliament, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, called on Monday for the development of a comprehensive economic roadmap to manage border crossings, aiming to increase state revenues and protect domestic production.

Chairing a meeting of the Committee on Border Crossings and National Product Protection, al-Dulaimi said the committee—formed for the first time during the current parliamentary term—reflects the legislature’s growing focus on border management and national industry.
He stressed the need to modernize operational mechanisms at border crossings and tighten oversight to prevent smuggling and violations, in order to safeguard the national economy. He also noted that the legislative authority will prioritize restoring the position of Iraqi industry and encouraging investors and industrialists by establishing a legal framework that protects their projects and capital.
He directed the committee to hold an urgent meeting with the head of the Border Crossings Authority to discuss amendments to the Authority’s 2016 law, ensuring it aligns with current economic and administrative requirements.
