Faihan Discusses National Roadmap to Address Environmental Challenges with Environment Minister

The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Adnan Faihan, met with Environment Minister Sarwa Abdul Wahid to discuss major environmental challenges facing Iraq and ways to strengthen government responses through coordination between the legislative and executive authorities.

Faihan stressed that the environmental file is a key pillar of sustainable development and community security, given its direct impact on future generations. He called for intensified efforts to address pollution, particularly in oil-producing provinces, and to confront desertification, drought, and water scarcity.

He also reaffirmed support for national policies aimed at protecting the environment, developing environmental legislation, and promoting sustainable management of natural resources.

For her part, the Environment Minister praised Faihan’s attention to the environmental file and confirmed the ministry’s readiness to continue coordination with parliament and its relevant committees to advance legislative and oversight frameworks supporting environmental programs.
